Introduction to Meditation

Many who attend Samagra’s eight session Introductory Meditation Program are drawn to meditation by the growing evidence of its positive impact on the body (incl. the brain), mind, and spirit. Offered three times annually in the fall, winter and spring, this program includes the knowledge and experience of four meditation techniques, breath-work, gentle movement for relaxation and preparing the body for meditation, and dialogue topics that are relevant to wellness, peace and insight. Although this program has been planned for those who are new to meditation, a number of participants have found it to be of benefit in renewing and strengthening their practice.

Each session begins with a mindfulness meditation followed by a 30 minute dialogue and presentation on one of the topics listed. After a short break, thirty minutes of gentle movement, which can be done in a chair if preferred, prepares participants for the second longer meditation to conclude the evening.
